Kawayu Onsen is located at "Teshikaga-cho," an inland town in east Hokkaido. Cool in summer but also one of the coldest regions in Japan during winter, the lowest temperature dips down to a whopping minus 30 degrees Celsius, with the occasional sighting of "diamond dust."
The hot spring is rich enough to melt even nails and slowly warms your body slowly when cold.
Please come and enjoy the communal footbaths

From the Diamond Dusts in KAWAYU
The most special part of Kawayu Onsen is the quality of the hot spring. Kawayu Onsen is one of the few hot springs in Japan with medicinal benefit, in that it contains strong acid hydrogen sulfide properties "that is said to melt even nails." The hot spring of Kawayu is known for warming the core of your body and keeping it that way. It is truly a God-send when sightseeing during the extremely cold winter seasons. In addition, the town is host to other hot spring inns and several footbath spots for your enjoyment.
